Saniderm Aftercare is different than Standard Aftercare. These instructions are meant to be used only if you have Saniderm on your fresh tattoo. If you do not have Saniderm on your fresh tattoo, please follow the “Standard Aftercare” instructions listed on the menu of this site.
What you’ll need:
- fragrance-free antibacterial hand soap (such as Gold Dial, off-brands work just as well)
- plain, white, fragrance-free lotion (any brand will do)
- Aquaphor healing ointment or an equivalent off-brand such as Kroger or Equate
- DO NOT USE Neosporin or Vaseline! Neosporin or Vaseline can and will damage your tattoo!
Tattoos can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks to fully heal.
Directions:
- Leave Saniderm on for 3-5 full days after getting the tattoo. If you don’t think you can make it 3-5 days, at least try to keep Saniderm on for 24 hours. If it comes off before or around the 24 hour mark, please continue to use the “Standard Aftercare” instructions listed on the menu of this site.
- It’s normal for your Saniderm to fill with plasma, blood and ink. It typically creates a dark brown liquid that sits on your tattoo under the bandage.
- Leave it alone. Do not try to drain the liquid.
- If your Saniderm leaks in a certain spot(s), I usually provide every client with 1 or 2 small patches of extra Saniderm. Use these patches to ‘patch’ the leak.
- Try to avoid peeling any corners on the bandage. The extra patches of Saniderm I provide can also be used to cover the peeling corners of your original Saniderm patch.
- Sometimes there are bubbles of air in the bandage, this is normal.
- Saniderm is waterproof, so you may shower as usual. Though it is waterproof, it is still wise to monitor the time you are in the water and limit the amount of time you do any physical activity. Prolonged exposure to water and sweat will loosen/weaken the adhesive.
- After 3-5 days, carefully remove the bandage under warm, running water; in the shower is recommended.
- Wash with antibacterial soap, pat dry with a paper towel.
- Your tattoo may be dry and flakey, apply fragrance-free lotion as needed.
- Your tattoo may be sore and tender still, this is normal.
- Bruising is normal sometimes, especially in areas in the inner arm/elbow, inner thigh and behind the knee.
- If you experience a rash, abnormal skin irritation, or other symptoms of an allergic reaction, remove the bandage immediately and wash with warm water and antibacterial soap. Continue to use “Standard Aftercare” instructions listed on the menu of this site.
- If your bandage peels off at any point before the 3-5 full days, don’t worry. Wash it with antibacterial soap and continue to use “Standard Aftercare” instructions listed on the menu of this site.
- Please email me if you have any questions or concerns, or call the shop.

Touch Ups:
I expect you to follow all recommended instructions when healing your tattoo.
Sometimes, regardless of good aftercare strategies, tattoos will have areas that didn’t heal as great as others. This is nothing to worry about. I offer one free touchup with every tattoo, only if necessary. I do not do touch ups just for the sake of doing a free touch up.
Your skin is a living organ, and tattoos are forever settling. They will look different as they age. This natural aging is not something that requires a touch up. Tattoos settling into your skin is inevitable and should be appreciated as they are becoming part of your body.
